A Virgin Australia plane at the centre of a hijacking alert has been forced to land in Indonesia, according to officials

A Virgin Australia plane was reported hijacked and forced to land in Indonesia according to reports. Flight VA41 is a Boeing 737-8EF capable of carrying 150 passengers.

Reuters news agency says that the plane, which is believed to have been flying from Brisbane, Australia, was forced to land on the island of Bali. A passenger who apparently tried to enter the cockpit was later arrested. Virgin Australia said an intoxicated passenger had caused the alarm.

The agency was quoting an Indonesian Air Force spokesman on Metro TV.

All aircraft going into Bali are reportedly being diverted to other airports.

The pilot of a Virgin Australia plane flying to the Indonesian holiday island of Bali reported a hijacking attempt on Friday after a passenger tried to enter the cockpit, an Indonesian transport official said. We got information that a 737-800 from Brisbane to Bali has been hijacked," spokesman Hadi Tjahjanto told MetroTV television station, adding it was a Virgin flight.
